The Association was born on June 2012 in Monaco, because the Principality gathers, among extraordinary therapeutic prospective, very distinguished persons from the scientific and healthcare communities, but also political, economic and religious leading figures in an ethic and human environment.
  • Monaco is known to be an international crossroad of talents and activities, and its humanitarian action is recognized worldwide.
  • Monaco has developed a centre for research in medical biology where researchers and physicians work on different aspects: there, Professor Eliane Gluckman has developed an “observatory  on sickle cell anemia”, blood disease, mortal disease among the poorest, but easily treatable with cord blood grafts.
  • The Monaco Government is in favor to support researches in this field and that Monaco maternity unit becomes a centre for cord blood collection, in a very strict legal context.
  • In the political sphere, the implementation of a centre of bio-resources is one of the 50 future projects presented in Monaco 2029, a document elaborated by the Conseil National (Monaco Parliament) with the help of economists and leading figures.
  • Ethically, the Church and the Diocesan Committee of bioethics of Monaco are equally very favorable for the development of this kind of project. Cord blood cells do not cause any ethical problem as they affects neither mother nor child.

THE ASSOCIATION “CORDON DE VIE” HAS BEEN CREATED TO TURN THE HOPES INTO REALITY.
